Police make two arrests during DUI and driver's license checkpoint

Two people were arrested during a DUI and driver's license checkpoint held in Santa Maria on the Cinco de Mayo holiday.

The checkpoint took place Sunday in the 200 block of South Broadway from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Santa Maria Police say one driver was arrested for driving under the influence. Another person was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Police screened 516 of the 2,600 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint.

They say 20 citations were given out to people driving while unlicensed, and one other driver was cited for driving on a suspended license.

Those vehicles were released to licensed drivers.
