The Morro Bay Police Department held a "Tip-a-Cop" event at the city's community center Friday night.
Morro Bay's finest served as waiters to raise money for the Special Olympics. San Luis Obispo County Special Olympics Regional Manager Stephanie Hennessey attended the event and was thrilled with the officers' involvement. "We have a lot of great law enforcement agencies in the county who raise a lot of money for our program and that money stays locally to serve the athletes in San Luis Obispo County. So that provides them the opportunity for year round training, competition, and to travel away and compete in other places too," Hennessey said.
All tips collected by the police officers along with money raised from a silent auction were donated to the Special Olympics. Items for the silent auction came from local businesses. In past years, the event has raised around $5.000 for Special Olympics athletes.
