Santa Maria Police held a news conference Monday to reveal new details in the death of Santa Maria resident, Anthony Ibarra, 28.
Ibarra's body was found in the back of a U-Haul truck parked on an Orcutt street on Tuesday, March 19.
Police said Monday that Ibarra was actually killed two days before his body was found. They said he was tortured for hours before finally being stabbed to death.
Investigators are not saying much about a motive for the killing, but do say gangs and drugs were involved.
Eight people have been arrested in connection with Ibarra's murder - Ramon Maldonado, Reyes Gonzales, Jr., Santos Sauceda, Anthony Solis, Robert Sosa, David Maldonado, Jr., Carmen Cardenas, and Pedro Torres, Jr. To see the full list of charges against the suspects, click here.
Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including the FBI, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, Santa Barbara County Probation, and Santa Barbara County District Attorney.
