Atascadero Police have recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen items from a U-Haul truck and believe more may be out there.
Offficers say they recovered about $15,000 worth of stolen goods. Most of the items were taken during a burglary near Paso.
Officers arrested Steven Bentley, 34, of Atascadero on burglary charges after receiving a call from the owner of a landscaping company. He says bentley tried to sell him a stolen chainsaw. When officers located and seized the U-Haul, they found mostly construction and landscaping tools as well as some methamphetamine.
"When they were stolen, the owner knew the serial number and reported the serial number to the police, so before they even came to identify their property. We had already identified some of the items here as being stolen," said Atascadero Police Commander Steve Gesell.
One of the more recognizable items was this jacket. Police are unsure how many people had their property stolen and say some may not even realize anything is missing. Officers hoping to return these items to their rightful owners.
Atascadero Police are working with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department to recover more stolen items. They believe some are connected to a recent rash of burglaries throughout the county.
