Police sponsor local kid so he can play basketball

The Lompoc Police Officers' Association and Police Activities League are making sure a local kid gets to play basketball.

The organizations are sponsoring Eric Supulveda, 7, for the Boys and Girls Club basketball program for one year.

Probation Officer, Nelson Maldonado, requested that they help the boy. The LPOA and PAL are both paying $60 to cover the cost of club membership and the basketball program.

Police officers say Sepulveda is a highly motivated kid who lives with his mom and sister. His mother is the sole provider for the family, and she works in the fields every day. Today, she was brought to tears by the kind gesture.

Sepulveda thanked everyone and promised he will be at the club every day after school.
