Officers had a Santa Maria neighborhood surrounded Wednesday morning as they searched for a wanted felon.

Santa Maria Police say Jonathan Hays, 24, was walking in the 1600 block of North Broadway and when he saw officers, he took off into a residential neighborhood to avoid arrest. Officers say he was wanted for being in violation of his parole.

Using a K9 officer, police found Hays hiding in someone's backyard in the 1600 block of North McLelland. He was arrested on the warrant and for having drugs and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail.
