The Santa Maria Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, September 10th.
It will take place from 6:00 pm to 1:00 am.
Motorists approaching the checkpoint will see signs advising them the checkpoint is ahead.
The checkpoint will be placed on a road which the Santa Maria Police Department has identified as having a large number of DUI drivers.
Each year, driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs kills more than 17,000 people nationally.
More than 300,000 people are injured and 1.5 million arrested.
One in three Americans will be affected by this violent crime in their lifetime.
