A 70-year-old woman hit by an SUV in Santa Maria Tuesday while crossing the street has died, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
Police believe Hui Quin Zhong of Santa Maria was in a marked crosswalk near Stowell Road and South Broadway when she was hit by a driver turning at the intersection around 9:43 a.m.
Zhong was air-lifted to the hospital with major injuries, including head trauma, and died from her injuries Wednesday afternoon, police say.
Police say drugs or alcohol are not suspected in the collision and the driver, who was not arrested, is cooperating with investigators.
The incident is still under investigation and police say when complete, it will be sent to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office to decide if charges will be filed against the driver.
