Portion of Highway 1 reopened after mudslide

Caltrans has reopened a portion of Highway 1 in Monterey County that was closed for a week because of a mudslide.

The slide happened on Highway 1 near Alder Creek last Sunday. Crews have been able to clear the debris enough to allow traffic to go through in both directions from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Meantime, progress has been made on Highway 1 near Rocky Creek, where a portion of the highway gave out about three weeks ago. Caltrans has now opened it up to pedestrian and bicyclist traffic. Escorts are proved for travelers twice a day, at 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
