Paso Robles schools are on high alert after police warn parents of a possible plan to kidnap a child.
"Makes your spine tingle for sure," said Aaron Harrington, a father in Paso Robles.
Harrington has a nine-year old son who attends Georgia Brown Elementary School in Paso Robles. He says since hearing of the alert, he's even done his own patrolling.
"I have taken the precaution of driving around my son's school, a couple of times, just to be vigilant, looking for somebody that looks out of place," said Harrington.
He's not the only one who's been busy. Dispatchers with the police department have received call after call from parents desperate for more details.
"Initial information was that someone might be abducting a male juvenile, no one in particular," said Paso Robles Police Chief Robert Burton. "They wanted to do this before Christmas."
Chief Burton says the original tip came in Tuesday around 1:00 p.m.
"The tipster gave information with a name and a physical description," said Burton. "We found that person, we've interviewed that person, we're still in the process of talking with that person to see if he was involved whatsoever in this planned abduction."
He says they are not releasing the name of the suspect who lives in San Luis Obispo County, but did say he has no past criminal history and is not a registered sex offender.
Parents like Harrington are continuing to keep their children alert.
"The importance of being observant and aware, who's around. If somebody doesn't look familiar then take note and tell an adult," said Harrington.
The tipster told police the suspect had been casing particular areas around Paso Robles for the last few weeks. Police say each school has beefed up security in the area, and more police patrols around the schools have been added.
The Paso Robles Police Department says the suspect is a white man in his 60s. He's around 5'11", close to 220 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He is reportedly driving a white Ford pickup truck with a camper shell.
