Postal workers in South Dakota share some of the letters written to old St. Nick

(KDLT) Tis the season of giving, but for many children this time of year is all about receiving, and making sure the big guy in Red knows what's up.

That's where employees of the Sioux falls, south Dakota post office come in.

Each year at this time, they receive hundreds and hundreds of letters addressed to St,. Nick from young and older kids alike.

While most list are requests for things like dolls, bike and electronics, some are more heartfelt and written by older kids whose families are faced with hard financial times.

Postal workers admit some letters are both touching and tearful making this a special time of year.

'We know, just like him this is a busy time of year for us as well as for him, so we take it upon ourselves to assist him," said one postal employee.

Santa's helpers answer some of the letters stamped with a return address, but do to the shire volume they unfortunately can't answer them all.
