NEW YORK (AP) - The number of homes and businesses without electricity in the Northeast is climbing again as a wintry storm sweeps the coast.

Utilities in New York City and Long Island reported that a nor'easter hitting Wednesday has knocked out power to about 48,000 customers. Some of those had just gotten it back after losing it to Superstorm Sandy more than a week ago.

New Jersey utilities are also reporting scattered outages. Some customers also complain they had just gotten their lights back only to lose them again.

At the peak of the outages from Sandy, more than 8.5 million customers lost power. Before the nor'easter hit that number was down to 675,000, mostly in New Jersey and New York.
