Fire crews are gaining ground on a blaze burning in the hills above San Luis Obispo County.
The US Forest Services says firefighters have the Pozo Fire 62 percent contained Sunday night. That fire began Saturday at around 12:30p.m., near Parkhill and East Pozo Roads.
Flames and thick smoke could be seen from Pozo Saturday, but Sunday, just charred hillsides could be seen. Crews focused Sunday's efforts on battling flames near the eastern perimeter of the fire. Those efforts seem to be paying off. "The fire is doing remarkably well, considering it is warmer and the wind has picked up a little bit more and the humidity has actually gone down even more so," said Helen Tarbet, USFS Information Officer. "The firefighting suppression efforts are really going well."
Forest officials say 1,262 acres have burned in this fire. Crews expect to have the blaze contained by Wednesday.
No structures are threatened, but evacuation orders are still in place for nearby campgrounds.
