Prader named Big West Athlete of the Week after historic performance

Just days after breaking a Cal Poly record, senior pole vaulter John Prader is named the Big West Conference's Men's Field Athlete of the Week.

Prader broke a 16 year old school record in the pole vault when he cleared 18 feet, 7.25 inches at a home dual meet against UCSB. The height broke the previous mark of 18-6.75 set by Sean Brown in 1997.

Prader's previous career-best was 18-1.

His new height is the top mark in the West Region and ranks third in the nation this season.

He will try to defend his Big West crown next weekend in Los Angeles at the Conference Championships. He's also looking to return to the NCAA Championships, where he earned Second Team All-America honors with a 14th place finish last year.
