Prescription drug costs up

After dropping during the recession, government data now shows the cost of prescription drugs rose 3.6% last year.

That's twice as high as the 1.7% national inflation rate.

This as prices for a doctor's visit, lab test and nursing home room all fell below the rate of inflation for the past two years.

The price increase is blamed on highly promoted new brand name drugs which aren't yet available in a cheaper generic form.
