Gay Pride celebrations take place throughout the Central Coast this weekend.
San Luis Obispo is celebrating 17 years of Pride this weekend.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance is hosting a series of events that kicked off Friday night and continue through Sunday. The Pride Party kicks off at 9 p.m. Saturday, and the 17th Annual Pride in the Plaza Celebration is set from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. It is being held in Mission Plaza. There will even be a special guest performance by Alex Newell, known for his role in the hit TV show Glee.
In Santa Barbara, the Pacific Pride Foundation hosted its annual Gay Pride Festival Saturday.
Organizers say they wanted to create a safe, open space for the LGBT community and its allies to come together. This year, the event is celebrating the recent ruling on the unconstitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act. Congresswoman Lois Capps even made an appearance at the event. The Pride Closing Party is set Sunday at the Wildcat Lounge.
