Prince Harry visits New York and New Jersey on the last day of his visit to America

(NBC News) Prince Harry continued his U.S. visit Tuesday morning along the Jersey shore, where he got a first hand look at the devastation that remains seven months after Super Storm Sandy.

Thousands along the New Jersey coast still can't come home.

"It's very difficult because you are staying in someone else's house. Your whole life is here. It's very, very scattered, I am hoping to get back in here toward the end of the summer," says Mantoloking resident Carol Leone.

This summer along the boardwalk in Seaside Heights will be a different and difficult season.

"You come here to come to the boardwalk. The ice cream, the family, the atmosphere, the rides," says Jaclyn Hoogmoed. "It's great that they are getting it back together, but it's sad still now thinking of what it was, what that storm did."

Harry and his tour guide, Governor Chris Christie, met with first responders and stopped in on some of the businesses that have reopened.

The prince will attend a private fund raiser tonight in New York and then travel to Connecticut Wednesday, where he will close-out his American visit by playing in a charity polo match.
