A medical marijuana dispensary is being proposed in Nipomo and that's stirring up controversy in the community. The proposal is scheduled to go before the South County Advisory Council Monday night. The proposed site for the medical marijuana dispensary in Nipomo is a 4,000 square foot building located on the 400-block of North Frontage Road and Linden Lane.
Guy Murray, Nipomo resident, said, "Nobody wants these dispensaries and there's good reason. It's close to a lot of things that it ought not to be close to." Murray said that includes the community's Swap Meet. He said, "A lot of kids go there, a lot of youth go there." Murray's not alone when it comes to opposing the project. Ryan Angle, works near the proposed site, said, "I think the main concern is for the safety of our employees and for the general area."
Robert Brody is proposing the medical marijuana dispensary. He said, "I think the overall perspective and understanding of a dispensary is flawed and they're relying on old, half truths to perpetuate their negative position." As for why Nipomo, the Los Angeles businessman says it's simple. Brody said, "It was the only location we could find that suited all the county regulations stipulated."
Two distinctly different sides to a proposed medical marijuana dispensary. We'll now have to wait and see how it all unfolds. The South County Advisory Council is slated to meet at 6:30 Monday night. It's scheduled to take place at 148 South Wilson street in Nipomo. The dispensary proposal could end up at the County Planning Commission and eventually at the Board of Supervisors.
