The Pioneer Valley High girls basketball team opened Pac 7 play with a 56-49 victory at San Luis Obispo High on Wednesday night. The Panthers built an early 21-5 lead after Victoria Beccera hit a fade away jumper to end the first quarter.

The Tigers roared all the way back to close to within two points at 51-49 with about three minutes to go in the game. However, the Panthers outscored the Tigers 5-0 down the stretch to improve to 10-3 on the season under first year head coach Brian Hook.

Christine Aguilar led the Panthers with 16 points. Shynia Tell added 14 points for PV.

The Tigers fell to 0-1 in league and 6-8 on the season.
