SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Republican Steve Cooley has maintained his lead in the tight race for California attorney general, although the contest remains too close to call nearly a week after Election Day.
Cooley, Los Angeles County's district attorney, was up 19,000 votes, or three-tenths of a percentage point, over Democrat Kamala Harris on Monday. About 2 million ballots remain to be counted.
Nearly 8 million ballots have been tallied so far in the only
statewide contest left unresolved.
The lead has changed hands since election night. A win by
Harris, the San Francisco district attorney, would give Democrats a sweep of statewide offices.
