The heavy rains expected throughout the week have some concerned about the possibility of flooding at a local levee. Some are worried whether the Santa Maria levee is structurally sound enough to handle the strong storms.
A forty million dollar effort to improve the levee started a couple weeks ago. The project will strengthen neary six-and-a-half miles of the levee.
Repairs should be completed by fall of 2011.
