Google is planning to build and test ultra high speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the country. The speeds which are 100 to 1000 times faster than today's current delivery system would provide Internet capabilities far beyond what we're using today. The concept would bring fiber optic connections directly to individual homes.
Various town and cities have been pitching Google with creative messages to the company to try and attract their town as a place for Google to build a test network site. On March 16th, a grass roots movement by various technology-based companies and individuals within the San Luis Obispo community are hosting a rally in Mission Plaza from 5-7pm where they will try and entice Google to pick San Luis Obispo as one of those sites.
A message video would be sent to Google executives about the rally showing how San Luis Obispo would be a good place for them to build a test network for the ultra high speed Internet service. Everyone within the community is invited to attend.
There's more information about on Facebook, under the heading of "Bring Google fiber to San Luis Obispo, CA."
We'll have more on the idea behind the rally tonight on KSBY News at 6.
