Rape suspect from Santa Maria arrested in Texas

A man wanted for raping a woman in Santa Maria five years ago was arrested this week in Texas.

U.S. Marshals took Matthew Salcido, 28, into custody on Monday, February 24.

Officials with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office say their Felony Fugitives Unit recently received new information about Salcido's whereabouts, leading them to Waco, Texas. They say U.S. Marshals determined Salcido was working at a local electronics store there and living with his wife under her name at an apartment.

The Sheriff's Office says deputies with the U.S. Marshals Service staked out Salcido's apartment and when he walked out the front door on Monday night, they arrested him after a brief struggle.

Salcido is currently awaiting extradition back to California.
