Marc Flores found the perfect way to celebrate his 20th birthday. The San Luis Obispo Rattlers first baseman hit a game-winning double to complete a 5-4 come-from-behind win over the visiting Fresno Cardinals on Monday.
The Rattlers won their sixth-straight game and improved to 8-2 on the summer.
The Rattlers trailed 4-0 after the top of the fifth inning, before starting to chip away at the deficit. The Rat Pack scored one in the bottom of the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth to pull to within one at 4-3. Michael Kathan singled to lead off the seventh and moved to third base on a basehit from Steven Lozier. With Flores batting, the Fresno pitcher threw wildly on a pick-off throw to first base allowing Kathan to score the tying run. Flores followed with a double to the left-center field wall to score Lozier with the game-winner.
Two former Cuesta pitchers slammed the door on the Cardinals out of the bullpen. San Luis Obispo High graduate Marco Murillo stranded a runner in the eighth inning, while Brett Haringa left the tying-run at second in the ninth to earn the save.
The Rattlers finished their weekend homestand a perfect 5-0. They face a tough test Tuesday at the defending national champion Santa Barbara Foresters at 5pm.
