Hundreds of Central Coast students are stronger readers and writers thanks to a donation from a local organization.
Students at Vandenberg Middle School are taking part in the Power Reading Program.
United Launch Alliance has donated money for the special software.
"These are students who have struggled with reading, who came into the program with a 3rd grade reading level," said teacher Terry Jordan. "One student is almost at grade level. In the 9 weeks they have been working on it, we've seen really great growth for them."
More than $50,000 in donations were made to the program this year.
With the success of this program, the next goal is to launch a community literacy program in Lompoc.
