Recent Arroyo Grande High graduate Paige Johnson is proof that good things really do come to those who wait.
Johnson signed a National Letter of Intent to Butler University on Friday in front of friends and family. The midfielder will receive a full scholarship for the Division I-level Bulldogs, who just joined the Atlantic-10 Conference.
Johnson played eight years with the Condor Soccer Club. She played three years at the junior varsity level for Arroyo Grande High. She scored 5 goals and tallied 4 assists her senior year for the Eagles, her only season at the varsity level.
Earlier this month, Johnson decided to attend a soccer camp at Butler, a school in Indianapolis where she had already been accepted. She impressed the coaches so much, they offered her a partial scholarship. A few days after receiving the initial offer, coaches offered her a full ride and the chance to fulfill a dream of playing Division I soccer.
"I was on varsity one year, I didn't play that much. I wasn't the star. But I mean it's just an opportunity of a lifetime. I can't believe it. I'm so grateful and blessed. I can't wait. I'm super excited," said Johnson moments after signing her NLI.
Paige leaves Monday for Butler and has her first day of practice on Tuesday.
Johnson is the 29th member of AG High's Class of 2012 to receive a scholarship or recruited walk-on position at a four year university.
