Registered sex offender arrested in Templeton

A registered sex offender is arrested for possession of methamphetamine in Templeton.

Officers arrested Billy Gene Mannon, 51, at Moss Lane near El Pomar Road on March 10.

During a routine background check, deputies from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department were alerted to Mannon's status as a registered sex offender.

The sheriff's department posted flyers in the area to warn residents, as Mannon was found in close proximity to an area commonly used by a girls' sports team.

"Mr. Mannon was released on the narcotics charges pending his court appearance. While our investigation continues, it is out of an abundance of caution that we made the notification to people in the area who may come in contact or see suspicious acts that are associated with this person." said Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement detective Ron Waltman.

Mannon is not currently wanted for any crime.
