Let the fun begin!
Rehearsals are underway for the annual Phyllis' Musical Review Fashion Show that happens every March up at the Alex Madonna Expo Center. Volunteers are starting to learn the moves for some of the numbers they'll be taking part in this year. It can be kind of humiliatiing at this point, but is lots of fun come showtime.
Every year community leaders take the stage to model, and in some cases entertain, four separate audiences as a fundraiser for the women's shelter of San Luis Obispo county. Todd LeMay, owner of Bladerunner Salon in San Luis Obispo has been volunteering styling services for the models for years, but got recruited to perform for the first time this year. "So far it's really exciting, really fun. I'm doing a great number, Dirty Dancing, with Lauren (Chester). I haven't partner danced in probably 15 years!"
Chester is the choreographer for the show and manages to help turn politicians, police officers, broadcasters and business-owners into performers who can bring the audience to their feet. "Just trying to get them into it, get them a little excited about doing something outside their bubble. And they realize they can have fun doing that, and enjoy being in front of people because they're excited about what they're doing."
Tickets are on sale now through the gift shop at the Madonna Inn gift shop.
