UCSB beat Cal Poly, 71-55 to even the season series and set up a third matchup on Thursday in the Big West Tournament.
The game at Cal Poly was tied at 18 with 9:37 to play in the first half before the Gauchos went on a 15-0 run. UCSB was up 38-23 at the half and the Mustangs got no closer in the second half, losing for the 9th time in 11 games.
Junior center, Allan Williams had 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for the Gauchos who shot 56 percent from the floor and three point line (9-16). The Mustangs made just 30 percent (17-57) of their shots
Chris Eversley was the only Cal Poly player in double-figures. The forward scored 14 points on 3-11 shooting. Eversley along with the teams other seniors, point guard Jamal Johnson and shooting guard Kyle Odister, were honored in a pregame ceremony.
Cal Poly is 10-19 overall and 6-10 in the Big West. The Mustangs will be the seven seed for the Big West tournament. The Gauchos (21-8, 12-4) are the number two seed, meaning the rivals will play at noon on Thursday at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
The Mustangs beat the Gauchos, 72-64 in Santa Barbara on January 11 but the teams have gone in different directions since.
