Football players at Nipomo High want to give the community another reason to remember the Titans.
Nipomo High football is preparing this week for its second playoff appearance in the last three years.
The Titans led by head coach Russ Edwards will play Verbum Dei at St.Matthias High on Saturday night.
The 6-4 Eagles won the Camino Real League and feature a running back who has more than 1,3000 rushing yards.
Nipomo boasts its own 1,300 yard rusher in senior Eric Penningroth.
The Titans finished the regular season 7-3 and secured the Los Padres League's third seed.
They are making the second playoff appearance in school history.
However, this bunch hopes to become the first to make it past the first round.
"We're really psyched. It was the goal from day one, we've been working hard all through summer and the season it feels great. The team is really motivated," said senior quarterback Josh Correia.
"Everyone is really stoked for the game and we play on Saturday so everyone gets an extra day of rest and it's exciting. We're looking forward to it," said senior Duane Hanna, who was a sophomore on varsity when the Titans last made the playoffs.
"The trip doesn't take to much out of us and if we execute and play really disciplined football we can come away with a victory," said head coach Russ Edwards.
The game will kick off at 7:30 pm Saturday night at Pius X St. Matthias High School in Downey.
