Meet Goodie Girl, she's a rescued golden retriever.
"I have been rescuing dogs for 17 years," said Bev Magee, who recently adopted the golden with a story. Her new best friend needs life saving surgery and some help from the community.
Goodie Girl isn't just any dog, she has a long story from being raised chained up in cold Alaskan winters, to moving to sunny California.
This dog has a big heart, but that heart needs help.
"Her heart beat is really low," said Magee, while petting her dog.
Goodie Girl needs a special pacemaker. She has fainting spells caused from a weak heart that blocks oxygen from getting to her brain.
"It's scary. I am constantly watching her. When she has one I know she is going to have a couple more after," Magee said.
Bev Megee can't afford the life saving surgery herself, so she is turning to the community.
"I get home at night and people have actually started going to Heritage Oaks Bank. They are putting donations in there and it is great," she said.
So far she has $1,400, but she needs $4,000 for the surgery that will take place at UC Davis.
Goodie Girl needs the help now. Megee said she can't go for walks anymore, and she has only lived half of her life.
Megee's hoping with the community's help, Goodie Girl can look forward to brighter days.
An account has been set up at Heritage Oaks Bank. To help Goodie Girl, make a check payable to the benefit of Goodie Girl.
Bev Megee can also be reached at bevmagee1@gmail.com.
Any funds not used toward the surgery will be donated to the humane society.
