A research team led by a UC Santa Barbara professor has retrieved data from a sensor that survived the harsh polar winter in antarctic waters. The scientists hope the sensor will provide critical baseline data on the changes in chemistry of those remote seas.
The all-female team of graduate and undergraduate students and a postdoctoral fellow is led by Gretchen Hofmann.
Hofmann is a professor of ecoology, evolution, and marine biology at UCSB.
The team fetched the sensor intact earlier this month near McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
