Cluster headaches come in cyclical patterns or "clusters," and researchers are calling for more funding to find ways to treat the condition.
Neurologists describe the headaches as a violent storm of pain centered near the eye.
About 500,000 people suffer from the headaches, which can occur during the same season every year, or the same time each day.
The one treatment that can be effective is pure oxygen.
One patient says oxygen reduces his attacks from about three hours to 15 minutes.
