A British study finds childhood obesity is strongly influenced by genes.
Previous research has suggested a genetic component to obesity, but doctors used a new method that measured the combined effects of all the known genes linked to childhood body weight.
They discovered these genes accounted for 30% of differences in childhood body weight.
Researchers say the study supports the evidence that children of obese parents are the most at risk of becoming obese themselves.
