After a second place finish in the Pac-7, Righetti football is primed for a run at the top spot. The Warriors graduated some important players from last years 8-4 team, mainly on the offensive and defensive lines but the top skill position players are back. Quarterback Troy Prober also returns with a year of running the Warriors offense under his belt.
"We've got an experienced group coming back. Looking forward to the new season. Playing a bunch of teams in the preseason that have a lot of talent" said Prober.
Righetti opens the season at home on August 24th against Villa Park. Villa Park went 11-1 last season. Also on the Warriors non league schedule is Cabrillo (11-3 last season), St. Francis (9-3) and Valencia (6-5). All four teams made the playoffs last year.
Righetti head coach Gary Wilson expects the tough non-league schedule to prepare his team for a run at a Pac-7 championship.
"We want that league championship, definitely. Every year you're shooting for that. We've got to another one and we're hoping this year we'll work toward that" said Wilson. The Warriors haven't won the Pac-7 since 2009.
Righetti plays at St. Joseph on September 28. The Warriors host defending Pac-7 champions, Arroyo Grande on October 19.
