The Righetti High softball team scored three runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to come-from-behind to stun San Luis Obispo 3-1 in both teams' Pac 7 League finales on Thursday.
The Warriors, who already clinched their first outright league title since 2009, finished league a perfect 12-0 and 22-7 overall. San Luis Obispo finished the season 4-8 in league and 14-12 overall. Righetti is guaranteed a first round home game as the league's #1 seed in next week's CIF playoffs.
The Tigers scored off ace Katie Chenault in the bottom of the first inning. Erica Chandler ripped a lead-off triple over the center fielder's head. Hailey Rich promptly singled to left to score Chandler and stake San Luis Obispo a 1-0 lead just two batters into the first inning. Chenault mowed down the Tigers the rest of the way allowing just one hit after the first inning. She struck out 13 in the game.
UC Davis-bound Andrea Reynolds protected the Tigers' 1-0 lead until the seventh inning. Chenault blasted a shot to right field with one out that hit off the top of the wall for a double. She just missed a game-tying home run by a matter of inches. She was replaced by pinch runner Kayla Stevens. Reynolds struck out the next hitter to bring up Mariah Zaragoza. Reynolds had two strikes and was one strike away from the shutout when Zaragoza, a junior, sent one over the left fielder's head for a game-tying double. Teanna Silveira followed with a line drive basehit to right field to score Zaragoza and give the Warriors their first lead of the game. Righetti added another run to cap the comeback.
The CIF playoff brackets will be released late Monday morning.
