Road Warriors beat California 7-1 to advance to CIF semifinals

The Righetti High softball team's offense came to life late in a 7-1 CIF Division 3 quarterfinal win at California High in Whittier on Thursday afternoon. The Warriors won their twelfth game in a row and improved to 25-7 overall. Cal High ended the season 26-5.

The fourth seeded Warriors broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning. Brianna Alvarez singled up the middle to score the first run of the game. Righetti added a second run in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. The Warriors exploded for 5 runs in the top of the seventh.

Katie Chenault went the distance in the circle to earn the win. She allowed 1 run and 6 hits in 7 innings. The senior, who threw a no-hitter in the first round, struck out 8 Condors.

Gladys Esparza went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Breanna Timmons went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Mariah Zaragoza went 3 for 3 for the Warriors.

The Road Warriors must travel for the third straight round. Righetti plays at 23-8 La Habra next Tuesday in the semifinals.
