With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the City of Santa Maria wants to encourage residents to give the gift of life.

The last of four blood drives will be next Thursday, November 18, in the parking lot between the Paul Nelson Aquatics Center and the lawn bowling green along South McClelland Street from noon to 5 p.m.

The city offers these statistics to help you consider the need for blood:

· About 1 in 7 people entering a hospital need blood
· More than 95 percent of Americans will have a relative or friend who will need
blood
· More than 75 percent of Americans reaching age 72 will require a blood transfusion
sometime in their lifetimes
· Blood is needed every three seconds (nation-wide)
