Righetti High wrestler Josh Rodriguez and Valley Christian Academy's Una Hertzog were recognized as the best of the best Wednesday night at the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Roundtable end of the year banquet.

Rodriguez was named the Male Athlete of the Year. The wrestler enjoyed an historic senior season. He won a PAC 7 League title at 126 pounds, won the title at the CIF Northern Division meet and finished fourth in the CIF State Meet. He also became the first Righetti wrestler to capture a national title. "For them to pick me to be athlete of the year feels great. I'm always going to remember this moment right here. I'm going to go on to college and do good things and succeed," said Rodriguez. He will wrestle at the University of North Dakota next year.

Hertzog received the Female Athlete of the Year honor. The 5-7 senior guided the girls basketball team to an undefeated run in Coast Valley League play and helped VCA earn a spot in the CIF semifinals. Hertzog averaged 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists per game. She's also helped VCA softball into the CIF playoffs. Hertzog is hitting .446 with 16 RBI at the plate, while striking out 75 in 59 innings in the circle with a 2.37 ERA.

"I was really shocked. I really wasn't expecting it. So when they called my name, I was like, did they really call my nane? But it really means a lot, all the hard work finally paid off," said Hertzog, who plans to play either softball or basketball at Hancock College next year.

Cabrillo High's Henry Fienga and Santa Ynez High's Jena Deming were named Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Fienga played football, basketball and baseball for the Conquistadores. Deming played tennis, was a captain on the water polo team and swam for the Pirates. She plans to attend Cal Poly next year.
