The Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Roundtable saluted two underclassmen on Monday.
Cabrillo High softball player Madison Mc Namee was named the Female Athlete of the Week. The freshman first baseman drove in three runs, hit two doubles, scored twice and walked twice in Cabrillo's 15-2 win last week against Los Padres League rival Santa Ynez.
"Our team has gelled a lot since we first started playing together. We always have each others backs and we're always there to pick each other up," said McNamee when asked about what was behind her team's recent surge.
Cabrillo softball is 5-3 in LPL play and tied for second place.
Valley Christian Academy baseball's Conley Runions was named Male Athlete of the Week. The sophomore threw a complete game, four hitter in a 21-3 win last week over Coast Union. In the same game, Runions hit a double, a 3-run home run and finished with 6 RBI. Later in the week, VCA routed Cuyama Valley 17-1 behind a solo home run and 2 runs scored from Conley. "At the beginning of the year we weren't in unity so now our team has really come together and we're performing really well," said Runions about his team's recent success.
