Roundtable salutes Cabrillo's Sherry and Righetti State champion Luke Wilson

The Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table saluted its newest state champion on Monday. Righetti High wrestler Luke Wilson took home his second-straight Male Athlete of the Week honor.

Luke won a CIF State wrestling title Saturday in the 152 pound weight class. Wilson became just the second Righetti wrestler and the first since 1977 to win a state title. Wilson is just the seventh wrestler from the Central Coast to become a state champion in the meet's 41 year history.

Luke admitted he was nervous headed ito the final against top ranked Shayne Tucker, who had beaten him earlier this season. "Beginning of the third period it was 1-1, it was all tied up and then I started to take him down a little bit. And when I started to take him down I felt more confident in myself and I ended up beating him 7 to 3 out there. I was stunned. I didn't even know what happened. I thought it felt like a dream," said Wilson.

Wilson, who's been contacted by several colleges interested in him, plans to compete at Nationals next month.

Cabrillo High soccer star Kelsey Sherry was named Female Athlete of the Week. The senior scored her first-career hat trick last week in the CIF semifinals to help Cabrillo earn a spot in the CIF championship game for the first time in program history. The Conquistadores lost 3-0 to La Serna Saturday in the Division 5 title game. The Conquistadores still earned a spot in the CIF Southern California Division II Regional Playoffs. Sherry did not attend the round table meeting on Monday because Cabrillo was set to play at Highland in a first round game on Monday afternoon.
