The Kansas City Royals placed Lompoc native Danny Duffy on the 15-day disabled list Monday as they await the final results from the MRI on his left elbow.
The 23 year old left-hander felt a twinge in his left elbow on his second pitch Sunday against the Chicago White Sox and exited as a precaution after three batters. Royals' manager Ned Yost described it as "medial left elbow tightness." The Cabrillo High graduate missed a start on April 29 due to tightness in the same elbow.
MRI results are expected late Monday afternoon. The test could show inflammation or a minor injury. The worse case scenario would be a torn ligament that would require Tommy John surgery.
The second year hurler is 2-2 in 6 starts this season. He has a 3.90 ERA in 27.2 innings pitched with 18 walks and 28 strikeouts.
