The Cuesta College baseball team remains undefeated in the month of April. The Cougars won their seventh in a row to extend their lead in the Western State Conference to two games with a 14-10 over second place Santa Barbara City College on Thursday at Cuesta.
The Cougars got their bats going in the bottom of the first inning when Marco Murillo ripped a basehit to lead off the frame. He was sacrificed to second and scored on a two out single by Parker Hindle. Paso Robles High graduate Mac Stuart extended the rally with a line drive basehit off the shortstop's glove. Atascadero High graduate Spencer Ruggles cracked a double to the right-center field wall to drive in Hindle and Stuart and give Cuesta a 3-0 lead after one.
Cuesta erupted for 5 more in the second against SBCC starter Brendon Shoemake. Scott Shields, a SLO High graduate, singled to left field and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0. Andrew Montanari ripped a ground ball that went through the first baseman and down the right field line for a RBI-triple. Hindle smoked a 2-run double by the diving third baseman to make it 7-0 Cougars. The Cuesta catcher later scored on a shot that hit off the left field wall by Stuart.
Cuesta built a 14-1 lead after four innings and then held on for the victory.
