Expanding the runway at the Santa Maria airport is the first step in allowing it to expand its range of destinations.
Rep. Lois Capps will present the airport with a $4.1 million check this afternoon from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Capps says the grant is crucial to strengthening the city's economy. She says the longer runway will help the airport attract and retain new business and support tourism.
