SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Sacramento police say a stolen car suspect has died in a crash after he tried to evade officers.

Police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante says when officers tried to pull the car over around 12:30 p.m. Monday, instead of stopping the 21-year-old driver led police on a brief pursuit.

Gigante told The Sacramento Bee that when the driver ran a stop sign the stolen car was hit by another car.

The suspect - who was alone - died at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of his family.

Gigante says a man and woman were in the other car. One person suffered a minor injury, but neither was taken to a hospital.
