The Sacramento State football team will have heavy hearts when it hosts Cal Poly on Saturday. Hornets senior defensive lineman John Bloomfield died on Sunday morning after nearly a month in a coma.

The 23-year old injured his lung during Sacramento State's season opening game at New Mexico State on August 30. Bloomfield's lung eventually collapsed leading to three surgeries at a hospital in Sacramento. Nearly a month ago he lapsed into a coma.

Cal Poly senior slotback Deonte Williams and senior wide receiver Brandon Michalkiewicz played with Bloomfield at Sierra Junior College.
