With the Fourth of July holiday a little more than a week away you might notice firework stands popping up in several communities on the Central Coast.
Santa Maria will have 22 stands that will sell "safe and sane" fireworks.
The stands are operated by local non-profit groups. The stands will be open for business beginning Thursday at 12:00 p.m.
Fire officials SAY with fireworks sales come potential dangers. Some advice Cal Fire Battalion Chief Tony Ramirez says, "You are going to select a safe area, you are going to follow manufactures recommendations and you are going to douse in water after the firework is completed...and dispose of properly."
"Safe and sane" fireworks can be bought across San Luis Obispo County but can only be used in Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Oceano, Templeton and San Miguel.
Fire officials say if you are caught using "illegal" fireworks the fines can range from $400 to $2,000.
