Salvation Army hands out gifts on Central Coast

The Salvation Army of South San Luis Obispo County is giving out gifts to families in need.

About 180 families stopped by their center in Arroyo Grande on Saturday to do some Christmas shopping.

Registered parents picked up toys for their children, a bag of food and a Vons giftcard.

"The best part is the children have no idea we're involved," Salvation Army Program Coordinator Michael Coughlin said. "As far as they're concerned, mom and dad took care of everything and the first time they see anything is when it's under their trees."

The Salvation Army collected enough toys for all the children in need in the Five Cities and Nipomo. They say it's thanks to generous donations from the community and KSBY's Season of Hope.

They said they're short on gifts for teens, and they hope to get more donations next year.

People who did not register can still go pick up toys at the center starting Monday.
