San Diego schools may oppose nuke plant restart

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego school board is being asked to oppose restarting the San Onofre nuclear power plant.
City News Service says the board on Tuesday will consider a resolution that says the Unit 2 generator should remain offline until the plant goes through a rigorous license amendment process with federal regulators.
The proposed resolution says restarting the generator will have "profound impacts" on children if an accident releases radiation.
The seaside plant between San Diego and Los Angeles was shut down a year ago after a leak was found in a generator tube carrying radioactive water.
The operator, Southern California Edison, has asked federal permission to restart Unit 2 but a decision isn't expected until at least March.
