SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Of the 40,000 people who signed up to take part in the 101st Bay to Breakers race, fewer than two dozen appeared to run into trouble.
San Francisco Police Department spokesman Albie Esparza, citing preliminary figures, reported 19 people arrested during Sunday's race.
What they were arrested for wasn't immediately disclosed.
In recent years, however, police have cracked down on runners drinking during the competition.
The 12-kilometer race from the financial district to Golden Gate Park is famous for attracting a wide array of characters, and this year was no exception.
Among those taking part were people dressed as penguins, pieces of fruit and superheroes.
Some even left their clothes at home and ran in their shoes, socks and little else.
